The Song of a Dark Angel

A/N: this is a short thing about Nelo Angelo thoughts on the night before he's to meet Dante in combat.

Nero Angelo looked down at his clawed hands and then clenched them into a fist. A soft growl escaped him. Mundus has just given his assignment. He looked down at his hands wondering for the life of him why he was like this again. Then he had to remember it was for the power to strip himself of his human heritage. He knew somewhere deep inside he had made the wrong choice even though he gained what he wanted. Some part of him felt empty, that nagging feeling something was missing from his life. A small clank made him look down. Around his wrist was a silver chain. A familiar amulet dangled from it. His clawed hands traced the odd pattern that the ruby presented. There was something that called to his heart and mind. He had hoped that when Mundus had taken him that he'd hoped that he would never refer to himself as having a heart.

There was something that he was glad to have kept and that was his sense of honor even though the other minions of Mundus thought it stupid. His sense of honor made him fight fairly despite the backstabbing that went on in this place. The dark angel as they called him sat in his room on a dirt old bed that creaked every time he shifted his weight. Getting up he went to the window to star out at the night. The moon was full and the stars glittered brilliantly. He figured that once Dante came he wouldn't have much time to star out at the stars and moon again. There was something calming about them that made him want to stare at them forever. Taking the amulet off his wrist he brought it up over his head and laid it down on his pale scarred chest. With a heavy sigh he moved forward and put his mask on. For the rest of his life he would wear it as Nelo Angelo, the Dark Angel. Closing his eyes he let out another heavy sigh. With care he put his mask back in place preparing himself to take what ever it was that his brother decided to throw at him. For that was his song the choices that he would live and die by.
