The Professor couldn't be any more glad when Kincaid left the island, but he knew he couldn't be more glad than Gilligan was. Still, looking at the boy laying in the cot in front of him, the Professor couldn't figure out why Kincaid had decided to hunt him. Why would someone want to take someone else's innocence in such a way, especially if it had lasted so long?

That afternoon, Gilligan hadn't talked much. The Professor had checked him over after he and Skipper had gotten him back to camp- physically, Gilligan was fine, but he wouldn't talk; when he did, it was extremely quiet.

Mr. and Mrs. Howell had told Gilligan how much they loved him and how glad they were he was alive, in which Gilligan gives them a small smile. Mary Ann and Ginger had made sure Gilligan had eaten and drank something. Throughout the afternoon, the Skipper had stayed by Gilligan's side, only leaving him when he was needed somewhere else. Even then, there was someone at Gilligan's side.

The Professor insisted that Skipper get some rest, telling him that he'll watch over Gilligan for the night.

It was right in the middle of the night when Gilligan starts to move around in his sleep. When he bolts up, the Professor moves toward him, their eyes meeting. There are tears threatening to fall from Gilligan's eyes; the Professor sits next to Gilligan and wraps an arm around him.

"Professor," Gilligan whispers. "You're safe."

"Yes." the Professor answers, just as quietly. "I'm safe, and so are you."

Gilligan turns so that he can bury his face into the space between the Professor's neck and shoulder, Gilligan's arms snaking around the Professor. The Professor runs his fingers through Gilligan's hair carefully as Gilligan starts to break down.

"You're safe." the Professor whispers into Gilligan's ear. "You're safe, little brother."

Right then and there, with Gilligan in his arms, the Professor promised himself he would make sure that Gilligan was always safe around him.
