You wake up every morning and try to breathe,
You bend and you break until you bleed.
You tried and tried to fix the cracks
but ended up in a world fading black.
You hold onto the pain and depression
but if confronted, can't make a confession
You hide your emotions under your tongue
You once woke up and realized it stung,
So back to your nightmare, you hide away
and into the darkness is where you stay.
Being rescued cannot be a option
On your heart reads "proceed with caution,"
When the time comes to find true love
You dig and sweep it under a rug:
because to expose yourself would be a crime
and getting close, you don't have the time.
You feel too safe in your familiar world
Intertwined and twisted into the unfurled.
You need to let go, and then you will see:
Honey this life is beauiful I guarantee.
If you invite me out of the cold,
I can keep your secrets until we grow old
I can't wait on your porch and beg
Latching tightly onto your leg.
So my dear, you now have a choice:
Go to the symphony or hear the same old voice.
Authors Note: This was not truly "inspired" by Wintergirls to be honest. It was more a personal poem but I think its fitting. I loved this book. It was haunting. It was accurate for the most part. I wear my red dragonfly bracelet...
