I do not own Twilight or any characters in the story. They belong to S. Meyer.
"Auntie Leah! Auntie Leah! Huwwy up! It's gonna be too wate to go twick 'r tweating!" Little four- year-old Claire screeched as she tugged on my skirt.
"Anything for the Princess!" I replied, only half-joking, as I struggled to pull on the way-too-small black and blue fairy wings over my shoulders. You see, Quilwas supposed to take Claire Trick 'r Treating, but the idiot had managed to get himself grounded when he'd punched a little kid who said that he knew a 'pwettier' girl then Claire, so lucky me, was assigned to take her Trick 'r Treating. Don't get me wrong, I love the little girl to death, but I'd seen her on a sugar high before and to quote Thumper, "I'm not gonna lie to ya; it ain't purdy!"
So that's why I was standing there on the front step of the Uley residence, in a too small dark fairy costume, and desperately praying that I wouldn't have to resort to restraining a four year-old girl in an obnoxiously bright pink princess dress from tackling the poor soul who opened the door and beating them to near-death with an equally as pink plastic pumpkin from the local Thrifty Mart to get candy.
So, carefully gripping Claire's free hand in my own, I rang the doorbell and prayed that no one was home.
As usual - fate was against me for there appeared Emily holding a bowl of candy...which she nearly dropped when she saw me. "Oh, um, hi Leah and, uh, Claire." Trying-and failing- to keep the shock out of her tone.
Luckily, Claire didn't seem to catch on. Holding out her pink plastic pumpkin with a big smile she said, "Twick 'r Tweat! Twick 'r Tweat!"
As Emily gave Claire the mandatory currency for a successful Halloween she asked, "Would you two like to come in? I'm sure the rest of the pack would be thrilled to see you two!"
Well Emily, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't. But instead of saying that, I responded with tremendously false enthusiasm. "Sorry, but no. The night is still young and Claire and I here still have a lot of houses to visit, right Claire?"
Little Claire, bless her heart, went along with it, adding a cheery, "I wanna get some more candy!" as we hastily made our way back down the walk.
One house down only twenty more to go.
This was going to be a long night.
