Author: Shiva Darkwater Fandom: The Vision of Escaflowne Rating: PG Summary: A moment in time catches Dilandau completely unaware… Disclaimer: Escaflowne belongs in the rightful hands of Hajime Yadate and Shoji Kawamori (I have the true creators written here now just in case I ever forget). Really these two men should be highly honoured and given daily worship. Author's Notes: I am OBSESSED with Escaflowne. However, I have never written an Escaflowne fanfic in my life before. The last time I've seen the series was about 2 years ago. I had forgotten that Miguel was even killed by Zongi! gasp I know and this is ME: a true Dilandau and Dragon Slayers worshipper… cries So I wrote this to hopefully break me in. It's terrible, I know… I'll write something better once I see the show again. But until then enjoy the weepy and sensitive Miguel/Dilandau moment. ;;;
Blissful Regret
It had been a while since he had last allowed himself to laze around in bed. The high noon sun glowed through the dark curtains that hid the windows and Dilandau buried himself further under the plentiful sheets that were piled atop his mattress; he was always so cold at nights.
Something brushed through his silver hair and a smile crossed his lips as he burrowed away from the light of his bedchambers. No one could find him here except for one.
"Miguel…" Dilandau whispered the name with a soft sigh and, as he opened his dark eyes lazily, the boy seemed to suddenly appear, as if he had always been there and had never left. But where else would there ever be to go?
"You're always making me worry Dilandau," Miguel scolded, yet his blue eyes remained soft. He gazed at Dilandau fondly. "I'm never sure why, but I'm always scared that you may try to do something foolish and no one will be there to help you."
Dilandau shook out his silver hair, his arms already slipping around the other's waist, pressing his body closer to Miguel's. "Nonsense… You'll always be here, even if the others aren't. You'll always be at my side…"
Miguel paused, wide eyes looking at Dilandau with a hint of surprise. His commander was always so assured - in public eye he appeared to never need anyone, but he knew perhaps more than the others what really went on in the inside of Dilandau's heart. A smile crossed his lips then and he brushed his hand through that toss of silver hair. "Yes… I'll always remain at your side. There is nowhere better in the world to be…"
A smile crossed Dilandau's lips then and he rested his head on Miguel's shoulder. "There is nowhere better in the world to be than this…"
But something was wrong and Dilandau was only then coming to realize that. Miguel's hand… wasn't touching his hair. Miguel's usually sharp, intelligent blue eyes seemed too sad… too filled with grief for the blessed moment in time. "Miguel…" Dilandau found that he could not say anymore and though he tried to cling to his companion all the more, the image before him was fading in front of his very eyes. "Miguel, don't leave me…"
"Live and I will always be by your side… Live and I will always watch over you…"
The image broke and Dilandau curled up on himself, hugging his sides tightly as he felt a fresh wash of tears slip down his cheeks. Miguel was gone… He would never be able to gaze into those blue eyes again; never again be able to slide his fingers through that short, tousled brown hair… And suddenly Dilandau felt ill.
What was living if your only true friend wasn't there to live it with you…?
