The characters in this one-shot are the beautiful creation from the mind of J.K. Rowling, and are not mine in any way.
She was beautiful… and I was not. That much was certain. These rare truths found in life were as self-evident as they were tragic. The impossibility of our relationship could rank among the greatest paradoxes in the history of the world. But just as the juxtaposition of our appearances may cause only questions as to how we could possibly be a couple, our personalities once known, were just as incompatible.
Imperfect would be the kindest way to describe our relationship. Her intelligence was only matched in scale by my ignorance. Her etiquette matched by my barbarism. Her maturity matched only by my juvenility. Us being together broke every rule of relationships. Opposites may attract, but relationships are built upon common interests, not constant opposition. And we were always opposed. We agreed on nothing. Deferment was usually my best option when it cam to our arguments. She was right, I was wrong. The end.
But my general lack of intelligence often led to our arguments being continuous affairs, interrupted only by our time apart when at work. By all normal standards, our relationship was dysfunctional at best, horribly disastrous at worst. It didn't work by any stretch of the imagination. And yet…
We we're perfect for each other. Her intelligence put me in awe, my ignorance made her laugh, and gave her someone to share her intelligence with. My barbarism gave her someone to teach, her etiquette offered me the opportunity to be accepted in formal company. My juvenility allowed her maturity to be put to good use. And her beauty shone so bright that my appearance didn't matter to anyone. And we possessed the only thing more bonding than shared interests…shared experiences. Our adventures at school, during the war, and as members of the "Golden Trio", the focal point of the wizarding world post-war.
Nothing could separate us. We are to be forever intertwined. Our destinies are one, our fates sealed together. No matter the obstacle, our relationship has endured.
And nothing will stop it from enduring. Ever.
My Hermione and I. The perfectly imperfect couple.
