Thanatos knew they were coming.
He had always known, for years and years, that eventually this day would come: Alcyoneus would capture him. He never told his master as either Pluto or Hades: he knew the God of the Underworld would be unhappy.
Still, he knew it would happen.
Thanatos left his post in the Underworld suddenly. He felt an urge inside him to go into the mortal world, to the north. Part of him knew something was wrong, but the rest of him followed the urge.
It was a trap. In the icy north of Alaska, Thanatos felt his powers weaken. He tried to escape as soon as he realized Gaea had been tricking him, but the Giant was near.
Instead of fighting it, Thanatos calmly accepted his fate. He knew the ghosts were coming to chain him, to conquer Death: but he didn't care.
Soon Alcyoneus came, behind his legion of ghosts, with the dreaded icy chains, and Thanatos was chained. He was weakened, powerless, and trapped: but he did not despair. He knew, just as he had known he would be captured, that he would be freed.
His icy chains would, someday, be melted… but until then, he would wait.
