This Is Who You Are
Summary: Small drabble. KC Guthrie goes to Tyson's graduating without the boy knowing.
KC Guthrie clapped his hands with the rest of the audience as he watched student after student go up to receive their diplomas as their names were called. It was almost eighteen years since he and Jenna Middleton had given up their little baby boy, Tyson. For awhile, they'd kept in touch with their son's adopted parents but it had soon become too hard. They both missed their son desperately. Eventually, they got of their ties with them. Well, Jenna had. KC had looked on the internet to find things out about his kid. He'd written letters to his son's parents on holidays and Tyson's birthdays. He'd developed a kind of friendship with Jack and Kathleen and that was really why he was here. They'd sent him a letter with an enclosed invitation to their son's graduation. KC couldn't turn down the invite. This is was just something that he knew that he had to see. This was a big, important moment of Tyson's life and he wanted to be there, even if Tyson didn't know it.
He froze as Tyson's name was called, his hands paused in midair. Tears stung his green eyes as he watched a really tall, slightly muscular boy with dirty blond hair and tanned skin give a grin, high-fiving his friends as he ran torwards the teacher that held the diploma. The tall, excitable boy smirked as he hugged the teacher and shook hands with his football and basketball coaches, before he took the diploma and went to take his seat again.
It was almost like looking in a mirror from years ago. Tyson looked so much like KC had when he was a teenager. All except for the dirty blond hair. But still. Memories resurfaced from when he'd said goodbye to his little boy. He remembered wanting to keep Tyson so badly. He loved him so much. But looking at him now, KC could see that he and Jenna had done a good thing. Watching from the sidelines as the class was introduced and Tyson ran over to his parents, girlfriend, and little adopted sister, he could see that Kathleen and Jack had raised a kid.
But that didn't mean that it didn't still hurt.
The End...
