A/N: DEDICATED TO TWO OF MY BEST FRIENDS. THE HIRO AND SYLAR TO MY PETER.

Prelude: You know ghosts exist right? Well there are these things called spirits, they're different. They're the souls of people that are still on earth but can't communicate through their bodies. Well I didn't pay much attention to them until one wouldn't leave me alone. Maybe I should back up and tell you the story from the beginning. For starters, my name is Katherine Marie Haskin and our story begins on a sunny day in New York City.

The day started out like any other, I was annoyed at my alarm clock and managed to hit the snooze button four times before my mom made me get up. I of course grumbled the whole way until I got to school. Ok, I confess I'm a nerd. I like going to school for my history class. The teacher always makes things interesting and I'm a total history nerd anyway.

The first off thing that I noticed was the man standing near the front gates. He was hurting anyone or getting close to the other students so I just figured that he was waiting for someone. A younger sibling perhaps or a cousin. I just shrugged the incident off and went inside. I saw him again at lunch. He was standing outside the cafeteria window and looking straight at me.

He was good-looking enough I suppose, chin-length brown hair and brown eyes. His hair was combed to one side and it looked a little like an emo-cut. I just shook my head and started talking to my best friend. At the end of the day I saw him standing outside at the gate again. Not being able to take it anymore, I walked over to him and asked if he needed any help. He jumped and whirled around to face me. The most confused look on his face.

"You can see me?" His voice was full of disbelief. I raised an eyebrow incredulously.

"What do you mean? O f course I can see you. You're standing right in front of me."

I snorted once and started to walk off when I happened to look down at our feet. I was wrong; he wasn't standing in front of me. He was floating about six inches in the air. I don't think my head has ever snapped back up so fast. My mind was racing with all the logical explanations for this situation and I realized there were none so I ran as fast I could in the other direction, hoping that I could lose him. I should've known that it wouldn't be that easy….

He managed to follow me all through town, talking about things that I didn't understand. Something about stopping an explosion, I don't really know. I tuned him out with my Ipod when I get to the coffee shop where I worked. My shift didn't start for an hour, but it wasn't worth going home first.

The shift went pretty well, he left me alone mostly and didn't try to talk. I was grateful and wrote him a note that I would try to help him.

I didn't know then what I was getting myself into. I still don't know all the details but I'm glad that I did it. If I could relive that time, I would do it all exactly the same way.

It all came to a head the next day, things started going wrong from the very beginning….

A/N: THIS IS A REUPLOAD OF THE FIRST CHAPTER. I'M WORKING ON THE SECOND ONE RIGHT NOW. IT WILL BE UP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
