"Harry James Potter don't you dare." Ginny Weasley warned, red hair seemingly crackling with anger.

"Ginny I..." Harry began to say, Ginny cutting him off midsentence. She took a step forward, going nose to nose with Harry.

"Don't. Don't do the whole depreciating routine where you tell me that it's better for me if you don't tell me anything. Don't leave me in the dark. I'm supposed to be your girlfriend, not a random hanger on. Please Harry, let me in." Ginny begged, her voice cracking.

"I can't tell you anything because I don't want you to be in danger. Don't you see? I'm doing this to protect you Ginny." Harry beseeched, needing her to understand.

"And there you go again! I don't need protecting Harry. In case you haven't noticed I'm more than capable of looking after myself. Even my boneheaded brothers know that now. Tell me where you're going Harry. Maybe I can help you, I mean, I'm not Hermione, but I'm still good with my wand." Ginny pleaded.

"No Ginny, no way. You are the one thing that is truly good in my life, and I won't have Voldemort use that against me. When I'm away, you'll be what I focus on to keep me going. I will come back for you. I promise." Harry murmured, cradling Ginny's face. She leant into him, shutting her eyes.

"You're impossible you know that? You can't keep fobbing me off with the same old excuse. When are you going to realise that I'm not a child anymore? I'm a capable witch, why can't you see it? To everyone else you may be the "Chosen One", but to me you're just Harry. Now go, leave now before I get really angry and cast a bat bogey hex." Ginny said sadly, pulling away from Harry, taking a step back.

"It might be different if Dumbledore was still alive, if I knew that you would be safe here with him to protect you. But he's dead, we buried him today, and things are going to get a whole lot worse before they even begin to get better. I would tell you everything in a heartbeat if I could guarantee your safety, please know that." Harry answered, trying so hard to make this red headed witch he loved understand.

Ginny felt anger flare up in her again, "But I suppose Ron and Hermione are going with you aren't they? You won't try and protect them will you?"

"They don't know anything either. And I've already said to them that I'm not telling them anything, that they can't come with me when I leave." Harry explained.

"And they've listened? They've just nodded and are happy being left behind? They're happy to sit by the radio every night and listen to the news, seeing if you've been killed? They're ok with that are they? Because I'm not Harry. I'm not." Ginny cried, trying so hard not to cry in front of him. She hated crying in front of people, hated seeming weak.

"Please don't cry. I'm not going to die. I've come too far. I will come home, and Voldemort will be dead and everything can go back to normal." Harry promised.

"And the Giant Squid will fly. Go Harry, Ron and Hermione are waiting." Ginny said tiredly, swiping angrily at her eyes. Harry followed her gaze to where his companions were waiting for him. He nodded sadly, turning back to her. He stepped forward almost hesitantly, his green eyes meeting her brown ones. Leaning down, he pressed a final kiss to those lips that he used to dream about. And then he turned and walked away.
