Disclaimer: Damn Joss Whedon for owning these lovely boys instead of me…
A/N: Written very suddenly off of a prompt tonight. I kinda like it, but I'm more than a little biased. I know it needs some revision, and one day it may get it, but don't hold your breath.
A pale pink line flirted gracefully with the horizon, as the sun lowered. Xander stood out in the field behind his house. He was the only one left…
Buffy had gone five years ago… Not by a demon or saving the world from an apocalypse, like they'd all thought she would, but a car accident. A drunk driver in Paris going fast enough to sail over the median, and smash into Buffy's tiny auto before she could react. Dawn had gone with her, and irreparably broke Xander's heart. He could only pray they had both found their way to heaven.
Giles had followed shortly after. This did not surprise anyone. Everyone, except Buffy, could see how in live the Watcher was with his once charge. One night, a few short months after Buffy's funeral, Giles had laid down to sleep, and never woken again. Xander's heart had broken all over again for the man he'd considered his father.
Willow… Willow had been the hardest, however. One day she as there, bright if not so sunny without Tara beside her… The next she was gone, disappeared into a jungle somewhere to commune with the Goddess until she too perished and her body returned anonymously to the Council.
Angel had survived the horrible battle in LA, but he didn't really count in Xander's book. He was already dead.
And tonight… Tonight, Xander had seen his last sunset forever. Every living person he'd loved was gone… He had no reason to hold out against the darkness calling him.
…
A cold hand touched his.
"Ready, Luv?"
Xander didn't respond, just watched as the pink darkened into purple.
"We don't have to, you know. Could wait…"
Xander shook his head. "No, Spike. I'm ready." He turned to look at the vampire. "I want forever with you."
