I don't own Harry Potter or any of the characters.

James Potter was alone in his dorm packing to go home for Christmas. He was worried about Sirius, who was going to stay over break. None of the other First Years were staying and the older students still don't trust him. He didn't want his 'brother' to be alone for the holidays. It wasn't normal to want to stay. Most who stayed had to because their parents were going abroad or something.

He considered packing for Sirius as well but he knew that he would have to ask first. Sirius was a very private person He may have been loud and annoying to a lot people. But to James he was very cautious about who he let near him. James was the only that Sirius trusted completely; James and the whole of Gryffindor House knew that.

James sat on his bed and looked through his favorite book; Quidditch Through the Ages. He kept an ear out for Sirius' return. It would be obvious when he returned; since Sirius was by far the loudest of all the First Years. About fifteen minutes later, he heard Sirius banging up the stairs.

"Hey, Sirius. What are you doing?"

"Oh, you know the usual. Wallowing in self-pity, trying to find new reasons to hate Snape, and wondering why I was born a Black. You?"

"I was waiting for you actually. Do you want to spend the holidays with my family? It's a little extravagant but it'll be fun."

"I don't know James. I know that you accepted me but I don't think your parents will. Even our housemates think its weird that you and I are friends. What will your parents think? A Black and Potter are not meant to be friends."

"You know that's not true. A Black married a Potter."

"Why Jamie, I never knew that you care so much."

"Shut up, Black. You know I didn't mean it like that.

"My mother was a Black, your mother's least favorite cousin. They would love it if you come. You are family, distant family but family nonetheless. Now, I'll pack your trunk while you go ask McGonagall to switch you to the leaving list."

"You really think this is going to work."

James rolled his eyes. "I'm a Potter. I am always right."

Now it was Sirius' turn to roll his eyes. He also added a dog-like snort.

At that, both boys burst out laughing.

"Brother?"

"'Til the end."

A/N It is not canon that James' mother was a Black. But according to Lexicon, Dorea Black married Charlus Potter. On the Black Family Tree, Dorea and Charlus had one son. He could possibly be James Potter. It's unlikely but possible.
