I can't tell you the page number because I got this off a PDF. The italics are the actual book. I just felt this little scene needed to be added, because I kept waiting for it and it never came. This is right before Nat and Bart go to attach Nouda. It's short and to me bittersweet, but here it is, the missing scene from Ptolemy's gate. As usual, I don't own anything related to the Bartimaeus Trilogy.
He looked at Kitty. She had halted with the Amulet outstretched; her eyes searched Nathaniel's face. He saw her aura shining all about them, picking out everything in clear, unblemished detail–the tree bark, the veins upon the leaves, the stones and grass about their feet. He felt himself bathed within it. His weariness departed.
He pushed himself away from the tree, stepping closer to her, taking one of her hands in his. He smiled at her, closing the distance between them, silently thanking Bartimaeus for staying quiet, letting him do this himself. He brought his other hand to her cheek and pressed his lips to hers. She tilted her head and moved closer to him, kissing him back. All too soon he had to pull himself away. He smiled again and taking several steps away from her tapped the Staff upon the ground. It flared into life. "See you later, Kitty," he said. She lowered the Amulet around her neck and smiled. "See you. You too, Bartimaeus."
"Good-bye."
Then she was gone.
