Disclaimer: I don't own PJO or HOO (unfortunately)

When I was younger I saw my daddy cry

and curse at the wind,

He broke his own his heart

and I watched as he tried to reassemble it,

Annabeth Chase is seven years old when her mother dies in a car accident. They blamed it on bad weather and poor visibility. Annabeth didn't know what that meant she only knew her father was crying alone in his room because of it.

One year later her father brought home a woman Annabeth had never seen before. He said her name was Susan and she was going to be her new mother. Annabeth was ok with that. As long her dad wasn't crying anymore.

And my momma swore

she that she would never let herself forget,

Annabeth Chase is twelve when she survives the car crash that kills her best friend Luke and puts Thalia in a coma. She goes everyday to visit Thalia at the hospital. She tells her about her annoying little brothers, Bobby and Matthew, and how she got an A+ in her pop quiz. She can almost imagine Thalia rolling her eyes and calling her nerd yet again. And sometimes she swears she can see her fingers twitch, or a flicker of her eyelids but she never wakes up. There's nothing Annabeth can do apart from wait, and hope. But deep down a part of her whispers to give up, that everyone leaves her in the end. And she believes it.

And that was the day that I promised

I'd never sing of love

if it does not exist,

Annabeth is sixteen when she meets Percy Jackson. With his messy hair, trouble-maker grin and laid back attitude, she never thought they'd get along. But she discovers they are more compatible than she thought. What she lacks, he fills in. He soon manages to carve a place for himself in Annabeth's heart. They are best friends now and she tells him about her mother and about Luke and Thalia. He hugs her and promises that he'll never leave. That he'll be there no matter what. She doesn't believe him but she tries to. She tries so goddamn hard.

He's gone.

No goodbye, no letter of explanation, no nothing. Annabeth knew it was coming, she knew he couldn't stay forever. Everyone leaves in the end. But somehow this hurt more because no one else had ever promised to stay.

But darlin' you are

the only exception,

you are the only exception

Suddenly he's back and there are tears in his beautiful sea green eyes. He pulls her close and whispers in her ear, that he's sorry, over and over again. She so close to crying and letting her feelings show so she does the only rational thing at the time. She leans up and kisses him full on the lips. And the whispers and doubts fade away leaving her with a glowing feeling of something she hasn't felt in a long time. Hope.

You are the only exception.
