"Demon, go on and die already!" They couldn't know. "Brat, go off and die!" There was no way. "Little demon whore, go and die!" Because all they ever screamed was death.
"Go and die!" "Die already!" "Go off and die!" They all wanted the same thing, for her to hide and die.
She did half of that, she hid from them alright. She had gotten to the point where, if she did not want to be found, they wouldn't find her.
So now they screamed. "Come on, let's go and spread the good news!" They would drink, they would celebrate, and she would hide.
Because to them, she was a curse that could not be dispelled.
How could they know though, that she was no demon? They had never tried to get to know her.
She had tried again and again to make them see, but her light was fading.
For nearly ten years now, she's shown others the light. Now at sixteen, when she needs someone to show it to her, no one knows.
But how could they know?
They couldn't, not when she hid it so well now.
She tried to take off her mask. Tried to tell them something was wrong. But it was tied on too tight, she would never get it off.
Not in time anyway.
Today is her sixteenth birthday, and today, she hides in her room, holding a single kunai. She writes the final good bye note. She writes to tell them all she could not in life.
She writes; I'm sorry, but it's my turn to fall into the darkness. Now, with none to pull me back out, I'm dying. This life I lead is filled with my mask. I made it, and now it is the death of me.
Don't be sad, ask any villager, and you'll know, I am no human. I am a demon that they wished would die.
I love this village, and if it will make them all happy, I'll die.
So I'm writing this, to let you know, that behind the smiles, could always be death.
She puts the note on her pillow, and lays down next to it. She cuts deeply. Everytime the fox healed her, she cut again, deeper. She dug in, until finally, the fox could not keep up.
She kept digging, when she couldn't stand doing it to her left arm, she started on her right.
By the time her friends come to get her to take her to the festival outside, it's too late.
The girl who never frowned. The girl filled with smiles. The girl who held the light for others to follow. Was finally at peace.
Strange wasn't it, that only after she died, they all finally knew.
They knew, Naru Uzumaki, was anything but a demon.
She was an angel. An angel, who's wings had been clipped. An angel, who would never fly in their world again.
They could only hope that when she was reborn, it would be as someone who was loved by all.
Because they finally knew, that that was what she wanted, and what she deserved.
