Drabble – Dirty
Alexander and Hephaestion made their way to the Queen's rooms. A halfway-contained giggle escaped from Hephaestion followed by a stern look from Alexander, only to be followed by a giggle from Alexander. They leaned against the wall and stopped the gaiety for a few seconds when someone walked by. When the hall was clear again, they both broke out in unabated laughter.
When control was finally regained and the tears were wiped off of their faces, Alexander cleared his throat and, using his most 'princely' voice, said that it had to end now. They couldn't act like this in front of his mother or there would be hell to pay. Giggles threatened to sneak out again but both of the sixteen year olds straightened up, squared their shoulders and swallowed the evidence.
They had spent the glorious morning in each other company. They had talked, told stories, read and laughed, a lot of laughing. It had started quietly enough but with two sixteen-year-old minds, it had gotten dirty. It was amazing how many innocent words could be turned around into something perverted. Then the fun ended when his mother had summoned them…almost ended.
They reached the closed doors and looked at each other with barely concealed smiles.
"We can do this, Hephaestion, just don't look at me and I won't look at you."
Hephaestion nodded with a slight cough.
His mother greeted the boys and began talking to them. Hours later both teens would recall parts of what she had said and together they pieced the jest of her conversation. They would have heard it all had they not been trying, with every part of their being, not to lose control and break down. It seemed to their sensitive ears that every other word had a hidden little dirty meaning. So many phrases were peppered with: giving me a hand, coming, bending over backwards to help and on and on.
Neither one of them dared to look or even glance in the other's direction during all of this, their self-control was at a minimuium as it was and threatening to break free at any second. Finally she stopped talking and they were free to go. They politely said their good-days and departed.
They didn't make it far, barely out of the door to be exact.
Hearing the uncontrolled laughter, his mother could only wonder what this world was coming too.
