A loud crash in the hallway woke me from the battle I was attempting to win with my consciousness. I looked at the clock: 7:27am. Groggily, I lift myself out of my bed and check my phone, even though there was no point, since no one ever bothered to contact me anyways. My best friend since elementary school, Emily, had cut off all contact with me since our high school graduation night. I gave up on trying to contact her and make amends with whatever problem we were having - or whatever problem she was having. I look out the window and the fog of the San Francisco early morning greeted me, as it did every morning, no matter what month it was. As I looked outside, my stomach dropped and I felt the heaviness of my heart.

I'm going to miss The Bay so much...

Quickly, I shake the thought from my mind and pull my dark red/brown hair into a ponytail and walk to the bathroom that was right next to my room. As I look in the mirror, I can see my black roots growing. I brush my teeth and walk out the hallway to the kitchen. My mother was finishing up breakfast while my father and brothers sat at the dining table and watched the news. I took a seat at the far end of the table in silence.

"You ready for today?"my father asked me.

I inhaled deeply and answered with a very confident "yes". I was grateful for getting into such an amazing school, even though it wasn't my first choice. I'm very content with my decision of attending the University of California: Los Angeles.

*two weeks later*

I pushed the button on the cross walk and waited for the little person to show up on the screen, indicating that it is our turn to cross. As I made it to the other side of the street, the song I was listening to had ended. I took out my phone to change it to something else when all of a sudden I hit something and spilled my coffee everywhere. Except, it wasn't everywhere... It was all over the white shirt of a young man I had just bumped into.

Great...This is just great.

I quickly readjusted myself and had said a thousand sorries until I looked up at the victim of my clumsiness.

"I am so...terribly...sorry."

"No no, it's okay. Really." the stranger said, with a genuine smile on his face.

Holy crap, he is beautiful.

"Here, let me help you clean this up", I said.

"It's fine. I was just on my way home anyways", he replied.

"Let me..let me at least buy you a coffee, as ironic as that sounds." I said with an apologetic smile on my face. He looked at me with an amused smirk on his face that quickly turned into a grin that was attempted to be suppressed and failed.

"Okay, I'd like that."

We began walking to the nearest Starbucks, which was right around the corner.

"Sooo...what's your name?" I asked to end the awkward silence

"Bill, it's Bill."
