DISCLAIMER: Why no, I don't own D Gray -man (- You see this? This is my attempt to type the title, WITHOUT FANFICTION DELETING IT. Forgive me, but I'm going a little mad), but it is a marvelous series, and if Katsura Hoshino were to ever let me give my two cents, THERE WOULD BE A LOT MORE ROADXALLEN, and the Millenium Earl would have rabbit ears under his top hat.
...
They'd been sucked into the reality that only existed between Alma and Yu, but to Allen it was so real. It was as if his very soul, his very being, was trapped in this time, this place, and his heart died every second that his mind believed it. He watched their lives together unfold, through the blood they spilt, the tears that fell, and the struggles of two comrads, once again alive, though their own reincarnation was unbeknownst to themselves. It took all Road had to pull him out of his daze, to bring him back.
"Allen. Allen." Her voice echoed dully at the back of his consciousness, but his concentration was on the pain of Yu, as he finally realized the truth of his existence.
"Be strong! Don't forget yourself! Yu's thoughts will suck you in!" As a last resort, she flung herself at him, waking him from his deathly reverie. His pale eyes widened in shock, and tears slowly leaked down his face.
"Road. R-R-roaaad..." His sentence trailed off as his body shuddered under hers. Sobs racked him, and Road felt every one. Her arms wrapped tighter around his body as he let the tears fall, for Yu, for the pain of both him and Alma, for all the dead exorcists, and for anyone who had ever felt so much pain by the Order's own hand. Road didn't bother with useless comforts. Because they both knew how this story would end. Badly.
"R-road?" Allen snuffed into her chest.
"Yes?" Her voice was soft, her mouth pressed into Allen's soft white hair.
"Will you hold me... just a little longer?" His voice barely came out as more than a whisper, but she heard him. She smiled sadly, her lips tickling Allen's scalp.
"Just a little longer."
