For A Home or a Throne?
(*)
The twilight is dying
And all Asgard shining
Glistening tears in grandiose ferment.
See the Grim((i)) and the gay
Stooped in sorrow this day
For the lost king, and their prince to lament.
(*)
But as Aesir were mourning,
A destiny, turning,
Awakened a-new-ed, and abounded in pain.
And found then by Death((ii)),
Through vengeance and breath,
Did fix its gaze Earth-ward on power again.
(*)
And then to a new task,
With the All-Father's Cask((iii)),
A gateway was opened. A new prince emerged.
And Midgard stood gaping
As purpose was shaping;
Glorious, deathless, with freedom to purge.
(*)
The prince, clad in splendor
And bright-smiling scepter
No longer 'the fool'((iv)) as the mortals bowed down.
But kingship eluded
As a battle concluded
The foes, old((v)) and new, saw their captive the clown.
(*)
He divided them well
And whilst under his spell
All manner of mayhem befell Midgard's best.
But unbroken he saw
That the meek go to war
When their champions assembled and passed triumph's test.
(*)
Now bound they reject him
Away to his new((vi)) home
The realm that betrayed its own king in a season.
To face judgment unyielding
For trickery wielding.
The homestead awaits and the five((vii)) with their treason.
(*)
Do not be afraid
Of the sorrow you made.
For mischief was missed, sorely, deeply, above.
And you'll see how the thunder((viii))
Forgives pain in his brother
And leads you back praying time will show you his love.
(*)
For when judgment's dispersed
And you stand with the cursed((ix)),
Two pathways will open both guideless, unknown.
And not for a horse((x)), but
For power, of course,
Will you choose then a kingdom? Or a family and home?
