Seclusion was tiring for Jefferson. He'd make a hat a day just in case it actually worked, but with all the disappointments he couldn't bring himself to waste any more time on it than he already had. He watched and re-watched all the movies Regina left for him. Of course to torment him more, they were all about father's desperately trying to get their daughters back. Occasionally Regina would visit him and bring him something new so when she had showed up that evening with a gift he actually was a little excited.
"And how are we today Jefferson?" she asked with a smirk. Regina sauntered over to him the way only she could, "Aren't you going to ask how your Queen is doing?"
Jefferson stepped back widening the distance between them, "You're not royalty here, you are not my Queen. Can we please just get this over with?"
"So bossy today I see, are you expecting some other company?" Regina mocked. Jefferson refused to answer; he couldn't give her any more satisfaction than he already had. "I brought you a gift." She said handing him a box.
Jefferson grabbed the scissors off the table and sliced through the tape. He pealed back two folds of the box, "What is this?" he asked picking up a slender object he saw there was a latch and that it could be opened.
"This is a laptop." Regina took the laptop from him and opened it up showing him the screen and the keys. "You can use it to go on the internet, a world of knowledge at your fingertips." She turned it on and the laptop lit up with a ding. "Now Jefferson, I trust you will use this wisely. You know that no one can know about our little town so I trust you will stay discreet." Regina handed him the laptop and placed her hand on his arm. "But of course Jefferson, I can't trust you whole heartedly so you will be monitored. Until next time." With a little squeeze of his arm she left.
Jefferson heard the click of the lock. He sat at his desk placing the laptop in front of him. He looked at all the icons on the screen and finally found one that said 'Internet Explorer' he clicked it and a new page was brought up on the screen "Google? What the hell is google?" The cursor blinking at him almost tauntingly but Jefferson had no idea what to type in the blank box. He typed out his name and pushed enter. Nothing about him came up it was all different Jefferson's ranging from presidents to rock bands, this world had no knowledge of him. He erased his name and decided to look up the one this world was familiar with The Mad Hatter. Pages upon pages were visible for all to see, Jefferson felt none of the illustrations captured his essence but a mad man in a hat was all you needed.
At the bottom of the page a list of other searches regarding 'The Mad Hatter' came up 'The Mad Hatter costumes', 'The Mad Hatter quotes' but one stuck out to him for he had no idea what it meant 'The Mad Hatter Fan Fiction'. Curious Jefferson clicked the link it lead him to a list. Titles upon titles were displayed, stories of adventures in Wonderland that had never happened. He began reading one where the Queen of Hearts was throwing a banquet. "The Queen hates parties." Jefferson remarked, not wanting to deal with such utter lies he went back to the list of titles.
This time he found one a little more accurate, a party was involved but it was about one he himself was throwing. A tea party. Jefferson didn't have many good days in Wonderland but the ones he did were spent with friends. This particular tea party was with Alice, The March Hare and The Dormouse. He had read the story twice through, though they got most of the facts wrong Jefferson was able to reminisce on a few better times in Wonderland.
For the next few days Jefferson was still cooped up in his mansion, but because of these stories Jefferson felt like for once he got to leave his house and have some good memories of his time spent in Wonderland.
