Jun, Kouki, and Hikari all sat together on the cold floor of Kouki's room. The curtains blew in the cold night breeze and Hikari sneezed. She scooted closer to the blond that sat next to her in the dead of night with only a small pokélamp to give them light.
He was shivering.
She blinked and turned to the boy. His face was a ghastly shade of pale white and his eyes looked like they were almost bulging out of his eye sockets. Then she laughed to herself and whispered into his ear:
"Jun, you couldn't be scared could you?"
The boy's cheeks flushed red and he jumped up from the floor onto his feet. He pointed at Hikari and denied the claims. "I'm not scared, you stupid girl!"
"Yes you are!" Hikari barked back in frustration. She stood up too and began to argue with the boy.
Kouki sighed and rubbed his temple. "What are you two doing?"
"Fighting!" they both responded. Then they looked at each other and crossed their arms.
"Apologize."
It seemed like every time the two friends were together all they did was fight, and they certainly weren't ready to apologize yet by any means. If only they could just tell each other what's wrong without having to act like they care, Kouki thought. Then it came to him.
"How about we play truth and dare."
The two childhood friends looked down to the black haired boy that sat on the floor, leaning against his bed with a smirk on his face.
"What?"
Hikari sighed. "I guess it's okay."
Jun agreed shortly after. It was two against one. Two (who wouldn't let him say no) against one (who was shoved to the ground and forced to play along against his will). He grumbled under his breath as he waited for Kouki to get a deck of cards, not wanting to play the game at all.
"We'll each take one card off the top of the deck," Kouki explained, placing a shuffled deck of cards on the floor in the middle of the tree. "Whoever has the highest card gets to ask Just place your card down the the floor once you've drawn it for the rest of us to see. Okay, let's start."
They drew.
The blond had the highest card.
He looked around the room. The other three simply stared at him and waited for him to say something. He hesitated. His voice stuttered. "T-Then, Kouki: truth or dare?"
"Truth," the boy replied immediately. He wasn't stupid enough to take a dare when it was Jun who was asking.
The game continued with all truths until awhile in when Kouki asked Jun once again that night:
"Truth or dare?"
Jun had a smug smirk on his face when he replied with complete confidence:
"Dare."
Kouki's father called him from downstairs after a late night of work, so the boy quickly turned to Jun and told him that his dare was to stay with Hikari until he came back, but the catch was they had to continue to talk but couldn't lie. He left the room and Hikari finally broke the ice, going according to the rules:
"So, were you really scared back then?"
"No. I was startled. There's a difference."
"Really?"
"It's a huge difference! It's like the difference between 'like' and 'love!'"
She laughed. "And I suppose you know the difference?"
"I do! Because I love you!"
Jun quickly covered his mouth after he realized what he had said. His face was flushed (as was the girl's) and he gritted his teeth. He wanted to deny what he had just said, but he knew that, for one, Hikari would know that he lied, and two, he wouldn't be playing by the rules, not like he cared but Hikari would get on him for it.
"What's wrong with you two?" Kouki asked as he walked into the room. "You both look like tomatoes."
They shook their heads.
Kouki laughed. "What'd you two do while I was gone?"
"Nothing," replied Hikari. "We only did what you told us to do. And I guess... I have to agree with Jun for once."
