They met when she was fourteen; she had been overwhelmed with her abilities in the beginning, unintentionally hurting others and sometimes herself. With his help she was able to discover and start to control her abilities. She was capable of flight with her fire, enhanced strength, fire manipulation, and life-force manipulation; all on a basic level.

Alexandrine and Kent were in a forest with a group of firefighters. They were doing a controlled burn to clear out a weed that had been wreaking havoc on other vegetation in a wide radius.

"How big of a radius am I supposed to be burning?" She asked.

This was the first time she was helping with the controlled burns. Kent thought it would be a good idea to see how well she could control her flames at this point.

"Let's start with a quarter mile of real estate and see where we should go from there." One of the firefighters said.

She brandished her sword and concentrated her energy into her hands until it was engulfed in flames.

"Now that is cool." Another firefighter said.

She couldn't help but smile at the positive feedback she was getting so far. She burned along the colored chalk powder they had laid in the dirt as an indicator of where they should be burning the forest. Things went smoothly and she took step after step trying not to let her flames get too big. When she thought there was enough she strapped her sword to her back and continued to walk alongside the flames, making sure to keep it from straying off the path. Kent informed the firefighters not to talk to her unless it was crucial so that she wouldn't lose focus of the flames. The first quarter mile was a success.

"Do I keep letting it burn?" She said

"Let it burn about ten more feet, and then we're going to start to turn left. Our goal is to try and form a complete circle." The firefighter said.

She gave them a head nod and continued to will the fire forward. When she would see an animal was in the way she'd make the fire halt, and the firefighters would try and move, or shoo the animal out of the way.

"This is the easiest controlled burn we've had in awhile. Maybe we can make this a regular collaboration." The firefighter who had thought her flaming sword was cool, suggested.

"Um, I don't see why not. Is that possible, Kent?" She asked, turning around to face him.

"Sure, also, I'm gonna need you to go back to focusing." He said.

"Oh, right! Sorry." She said, turning her attention back to the flames.

"You guys are done on your end as well?" The firefighter asked through their two-way.

All of the teams had finished roughly around the same time with their areas, and the controlled burns were done for the day.

"My uniform is gonna smell like ash for a while." She said.

"You mean more than it normally does?" Kent said, giving her a playful nudge with his elbow.

"Ha ha. So funny." She said, voice dripping with sarcasm.

"You've definitely improved with your control. Those flames were big, and you went for a longer time than you usually do. Did you feel like you were struggling at any point?" He said.

"Thanks, and no, it wasn't too much of a strain this time. When a few stray branches would fall it got me just a bit, because I had to make them extinguish themselves if they fell too far off the path. Having to stop a few of them without stopping the whole thing was a bit of a challenge. Everything is still just one big connection to me." She said.

"We need to work on your multitasking abilities." He stated, looping his arm so she could hook hers though.

She did so comfortably.

"I'm already dreading the thought of what kind of regiment you're thinking of." She said.
