Harry Potter stared down in shock at the letter he had just received. It had been given to him not by an owl, which was the usual method of delivery for wizard post, but instead by a confused postman.
"Never 'ad to deliver a letter 'ere before..." the man had remarked, looking about the cottage that rested on the edge of Godrick's Hollow. "Don't think I even knew there was a house 'ere...strange..." He left a rather confused Harry on the doorstep with the letter in his hand. Now the letter in question had not been delivered the usual wizard way because it was not, in fact, from a wizard at all.
Petunia Dursley
4 Private Drive, Little Whinging
Surrey,
read the return address, written in the neat, controlled hand of none other than his aunt herself. It was not the card that surprised Harry, for he had dozens of others in the same style sitting in two piles on his table, labeled "coming" and "not coming" in typical RSVP fashion. No, it was the fact that his aunt Petunia had actually RSVP'ed to his wedding invitation, to say that she did, in fact, plan on attending, and was coming with one other guest. Whether this guest was his uncle Vernon or his cousin Dudley it did not say, though Harry was willing to bet it was his cousin, given the last time he had seen him he was surprisingly almost nice.
"Gin, come here and look at this!" he called, and Ginny poked her head out from the kitchen where she and Hermione were planning the seating arrangements. "What is it?" she asked, seeing the card in his hand. "Did someone invite my aunt and uncle to the wedding?" Harry couldn't recall sending one, it hand even crossed his mind to invite them.
"Oh, yes, mum did..." Ginny explained, walking over to look at the card. "As much as she doesn't like them, she said they're still your family and that they should at least know you're getting married...I don't think she expected them to even respond."
So that settled it. Harry tried to wrap his mind around this new notion, but no matter how hard he tried he couldn't see an outcome that didn't end in disaster. But it was too late now. The Dursley's were coming to their wedding.
