Telling Lies… by HPFangirl71

Hugo Weasley had an especially close relationship with his sister Rose. Growing up they'd shared everything, having few secrets from one another.

Oh, there were the occasional little white lies.

For example, there was the time Rose had asked Hugo if her curls looked any better after she'd used an entire bottle of Sleek Easy Curl Taming Potion and he'd answered yes. (Her hair had looked straighter for sure, but also much, much greasier).

Then there were also the many outright lies told in the name of survival.

For example, there was an incident when he and their little cousin Molly had been playing ball in Rose's bedroom and broken her favorite porcelain doll… they'd both made hasty retreats and then feigned total innocence.

Now there were the secrets he kept to hide his love affair.

There were the many lies about extra Quidditch practices and countless detentions when he was really going to meet up in an abandoned classroom with Rose's classmate Scorpius Malfoy. He kept hidden their tawdry affair, unsure if his sister could handle the fact that her only brother was indeed gay. Until he was certain where he was headed in this relationship, he didn't wish to cause Rose or any of the rest of his family any unneeded heartache. After all, the family had been through so much already.

He and Scorpius kept up a believable charade, by both dating females and acting like strangers when they passed in the halls. Hugo knew it was wrong to string along the young Hufflepuff girl he was currently seeing but he saw no other way. He loved his sister and would do anything to keep her from being hurt. He felt the only way to protect Rose was to tell her the lies.

Then came the day that Hugo entered the Slytherin commons to meet his cousin Albus and saw Scorpius and Rose snogging in a heated tangle. It was then that Hugo realized how much telling lies could hurt you. With an image of his handsome lover kissing his sister, he ran out of the room with a determination to stop telling lies.

The time had finally come when the best way of protecting Rose was by telling her the truth.
