I couldn't think of a better title.. =_= So here is a fic with a crappy and overused title! Enjoy!
Embrace
"You're alive."
She buried her head in his chest, arms coiled securely around his severely bruised body, so tightly as if her action could heal thoroughly his physical being that was tainted with injuries and his face that was once beautiful to her, now overtaken by scars.
The pair of cobalt wings on his back disintegrated into light, gradually fading into the backdrop of a blue sky, flooded with ashes and smoke: the only remnants of the battle that had occurred.
His arms found their way around the quivering girl, his head craning forward. The tip of his nose was lowered onto the top of her head, landing among tangled webs of turquoise threads. He'd only just found out how sweet they smelt.
The sobs continued, bringing about a stab of pain in his heart. Much more than what the wounds he was suffering had plagued him with.
"Sorry..." he murmured, slightly tightening the grip of his limbs around her emotionally fragile form. "I won't... do it again... alright? Just... c'mon, Mori... just stop crying, will you..."
Her weeping was only amplified, despite his efforts to coax her into silence. A sigh released from his throat, he continued holding her silently, unsure of how to console her any further, ambivalent of how long he should allow her to remain in the refuge of his wounded arms.
She clutched desperately at the cloth of his shirt. Her sobbing went on, she displayed no sign of quietening down, permitting the poignancy of almost losing her dearest friend to his own foolish actions.
He sighed again, muttering, "You're such a crybaby." He smiled, a blithe and genuinely happy smile.
Yet a tear trailed down his scarred cheek.
Shock invaded Mori's heart as she felt the droplet land on her shoulder, trickling down her skinny arm. She tersely subdued herself, containing her urge to cry, though she did not desire to edge away from his presence anytime soon.
She wouldn't even mind being locked in his embrace forever.
I don't own the Law of Ueki.
