Written for reminiscent-afterthought's Call It Heads or Tails Challenge; Written for Aiko Isari's Too Many Cookies Bootcamp Challenge, prompt #29; Written for remi's Pairing Diversity Bootcamp prompt #25. This is my first attempt at writing romantic poetry, and my first time writing poetry in a long time, actually. And my first time with this pairing. I hope you enjoy!
Note: I am so sorry if this is hard to read. FFN will not allow me to format things the way that I want them, and I've been at this for thirty minutes now.
Twelve Months
He first saw her in April
the sun shone bright as her smile
the wind danced in her hair
the scent of flowers would always be linked to her.
He found in May that
her eyes were a mischievous amber
her kind curving lips a petal pink
her hand was encompassed within one much larger.
In June he discovered three things
she didn't stand well on two feet
she collapsed everything she touched
she was a danger but her friends loved her anyway.
In July he found her crying
face discolored by the firework lights
face dripping with heartbroken teras
face shamelessly buried in the soft fabric of his shirt.
In August he learned
she wasn't the smartest thing
she struggled with the simplest concepts
she continued to try hard in the face of failure.
They became close friends in September
his summer died in the warmth of her kindness
his summer died to the sight of her smile
his summer died with three visits to the infirmary.
He ate lunch with her in October
soon he called her friends his friends
soon he was walking her home from school
soon she shared with him a homemade bento daily.
The school festival was in November
she served him in her class's café
she cried in his class's haunted house
she watched the Computer Club's whole presentation.
Something went wrong in December
it was in the way she avoided him
it was the angry glares she cast him
it was cleared when he visited her Christmas Eve.
They watched the sunrise in January
a rowdy gang of misfits
a comforting cacophony of noise
a small, cold hand wrapped in a larger, warmer one.
February brought a confession
chocolate carved into a perfect heart
chocolate presented with white-bandaged fingers
chocolate accepted in an infirmary bed.
He finally kissed her in March
the sun sparkled in her eyes
the wind teased the ends of her hair
the scent of flowers clung to her skin as always.
