Ah, it's been a long time, Father.

I am sorry. So much has happened…

Naraku is dead. Naraku is dead. Are you proud, Father? Naraku is dead. My friends and I, we finally did it. I have avenged you, and Grandfather. You can rest in peace…

But that's not what I came to talk to you about. I know you want to hear the whole story; I apologize. I am going to make you wait a little longer.

I have made Sango my wife. Do you remember Sango, Father? The last time we talked, I told you she had the loveliest bottom I had ever run my fingers over. She still does. But now she doesn't slap me when I touch it—well, not in private, at least.

I know you would have liked her, Father. She is beautiful, and strong, and loving. I still have trouble believing that she chose to stay with me.

I do not deserve her. Ah, yes, I know you agree with me there.

I have lied. I have cheated. I have stolen. Since I was young, I have charmed and conned women into my bed. Name anything Amida-sama considers a sin, and I have committed it many times over.

I am not the kind of man that Sango deserves. She is so pure, Father. Why did she choose me, when she could have had a lord? She deserves to be pampered and surrounded by riches and comforts.

But I swore that I would always take care of her, and somehow that was enough for her. And what's most remarkable of all, Father—she loves me. She really does love me, and I don't know how many times I have thanked Amida-sama for bringing her to me.

I am not an honest man, but I have been blessed with good karma. I do not understand why I have been so honored in life, but I can only expect that I will be punished in the afterlife.

Still…are you proud of me, Father? Sango has changed me so much…I am trying to be a better man for her. Something close to what she deserves. She and I will continue our family…and I will be there to help raise our children…

A soft wind blew through the clearing and tousled Miroku's hair, an affectionate gesture. A light smile crossed his lips.

A quiet pair of footsteps in the tall grass signaled Sango's approach; her gait wasn't quite as graceful as it once had been. He stood up, offering her a grin as she stepped onto the edge of the wide depression that was his father's grave. She smiled back, one hand on her gently rounded belly, and he pulled her into an embrace, burying his nose in the fall of her hair.

The wind swirled again, pressing against their backs, pushing them closer together.
