Regulus was in his room at his parents' house. He had just finished school and there was a storm coming in. The young man could see his face reflected in the window by his desk as the storm began to pick up as he watched the trees bend to the will of the external forces. He was a tree. As a boy, he was strong but easily swayed one way or another. It just took a strong gust of wind.

They were very small when it first started. Regulus remembered it vividly though. It could have occurred just moments ago considering how strong the memory was. Sirius had convinced him to sneak out to the park across the street. "Just for a bit, Reggie," he said with such enthusiasm that the small boy followed his brother, his idol, out the front door even though he knew it was wrong. A storm blew in quickly and a muggle family took pity on them and let them come in for a few moments, just until the storm was done.

It had been a year and two months since Regulus had last seen or spoken to Sirius. Sirius had tried, Regulus would give him that. It had been too soon. The wounds he had created were too fresh. Regulus was too hurt. He hadn't wanted to see that his brother was leaving because it was too much. He stared at the blank parchment in front of him, trying to figure out how to write to someone he hadn't spoken to in such a long time.

Walburga had been furious. When Regulus had tried to say it was just as much his fault as it was Sirius's, Sirius had to open his mouth. Saying that he asked the muggles to take them in. That had been the beginning of the end of everything. That sentence was enough to send Walburga into a rage at the eight year old boy in front of her. Regulus begged. He pleaded with his mother not to hurt him but he caught Sirius's eye for the briefest of moments before he was sent from the room. Regulus knew that they would be divided in that moment.

Kreacher came into his room. Regulus had called for him as he finished the letter. He sighed as he looked out the window again. There was a storm coming in. This one would be the beginning of the end. He gave the small elf explicit instructions on where to go and how to contact the Black's sheep. The letter apologized for his ignorance in the cause, not for his beliefs though. He still firmly believed in what they were supposedly fighting for, just not the way it was being done. Kreacher left and Regulus gazed at his reflection in the window.

Soon. It was all be over soon.
