"I'd like for you to stop bothering Hungary." Austria said to Romania, a scowl darkening the Austrian's features. Romania stopped writing in his notebook and looked at the Austrian.

"What do you mean? I wouldn't touch that crazy bitch with a thirty-nine and a half-foot bargepole. And I haven't been 'bothering' her. I've hardly seen her since she told me she hated me." the Romanian said with a frown.

"She's been out of sorts recently, and since you two have had spots in the past, I can infer that you've done something to upset her. AGAIN." the Austrian explained to the confused nation opposite him. Now the Romanian stood up.

"Ever think she might be having her 'monthly issues'?" Romania snapped at the offending Austrian, whose scowl had turned to a deep red blush.

"..."

"I take not. Just do me a favor and leave me alone please."

"W-wait, Romania, I-"

"Save it."

Romania walked out of the conference, tears starting to build in his eyes. He furiously wiped them away, but they came back.

Why was Austria always concerned about Hungary?

Why couldn't Austria like him instead?

Well, this was a dismal way to start the New Year, wasn't it?

-Transition-

"I saw it and I thought of you. You love cats, da?"

"Of...course I do. Thank you." Greece said, taking the fat brown kitty with the violet eyes from the death grip of Russia, who shyly gave the Grecian a smile. Greece blinked and returned it with a slight lifting of the corners of his mouth. Greece then turned his back on Russia to go back to sleep, the new cat still in the protective cage of his arms.

Russia's smile grew as he quietly lay himself down next to the Grecian and gently placed his arms around the Greek nation, who stiffened like an electric current had run through him, then relaxed into the hold of the Russian.

"Happy New Year, Greece."

"Mmm."

-AWWW!-

"Your puffin is so cute, aru!" China squealed as he joined Iceland on the balcony to watch the fireworks America gathered all the nations to see. Iceland looked at the Asian. "Oh, thanks. I found him when I was very small. We grew up together, after all." Iceland murmured, drawn close to China's panda. "Can...can I pet him?" Iceland asked, motioning to said animal. China smiled and nodded, noticing how polite Iceland was.

China's amber eyes slowly slid down to trace the Nordic's jawline, being hypnotized by his violet eyes, wanting to tear off the white bow tied at Iceland's beautiful throat, just to catch a glimpse of the pale skin. He was getting old, and Iceland was so young and radiant.

"Oh, look, the fireworks have started."

It was true.

Gorgeous reds, blues, greens, every color zoomed high up into the night, bursting in midair, filling the air with booms and laughter as people hugged each other and brought in the New Year.

It was beautiful.

"No," Iceland thought as he looked at China. "You're beautiful."
