AN: Okay now honestly would anyone be interested in reading a fic based off the movie, 'Timer' with a bit of a twist. I'm thinking of opening with a bit of a back story with high school John and then college John. I'm not sure whether I should do Sherlock's back story as well or simply fast forward to when they meet and slowly unveil Sherlock's past bit by bit. I don't even know if this would be a good fic or if anyone would read it but I barely even wrote this much and I'm ready to give up. I've got all sorts of ideas floating around right now about whether I will stick to a bit of the show when they meet and the pool scene with Moriarty or if it'd be very different. I dunno. Some perspective is very much appreciated. Thank you. Bless you.
Unfazed by the epidemic of dying leaves, the trees keep growing strong and tall. Leaves litter the ground reducing the branches to take on a sharp claw-like structure reaching out, poised in cradling position as if waiting for something massive to fall from the sky. Everything is doomed to come crashing down. Perhaps that's just the way John sees it, each falling leaf serving nothing more than a sorrow-filled reminder that fall is only closer than the previous day. He becomes more anxious with the knowledge that with the start of fall also begins the start of school. The weight of knowing that this year is the year most timers will reveal and certain couples will begin to zero out, only further aids his uneasy thoughts.
For three years, he'd watched the timer on his wrist blink zero but now that he was eighteen, he knew it was only a matter of time until it revealed. At first, it had been exhilarating and filled him with a splash of adrenaline. He'd been fifteen when he was implanted, he remembered the thrill that would shoot through his body at the smallest sound. A doorbell chime, a car honking in the distance, Harriet's iPod playing loudly in her room, any sound at all and he was glancing at his wrist hoping that his timer had been revealed but it remained blank. After a few months, he regretted being implanted so soon it was almost depressing how often he would glance at his wrist. Most people wait until they're eighteen, they get their license as well their timer, an easy way to kill two birds with one stone.
Normally John wouldn't be feeling quite as anxious about his timer revealing, he had waited long enough, but he had been dating Katie McLaren for two years now. He really liked her, they got on well enough, and she was to be studying at the same college as he. The thing about Katie was that she did not have a timer yet; this is the year that would all change.
The first day back at school was much like pre-school show and tell, a low hum spread through the halls as students spoke of their summer adventures. Those who had their eighteenth birthday over the summer were excited about having a timer for the first time. Others who had revealed over the summer were comparing the countdowns; it was all anyone could talk about.
As the school year drew to a close, the enthusiasm from the start of school had begun to wear off. Every now and again, someone's timer would reveal during class and people would glance their way but unless it was a couple zeroing out nobody seemed to care all that much.
