the lost meaning of truth
the hunger games. katniss/peeta. angst (angst, and more angst)
"tell me the truth" peeta's voice sounded in the capitol train as it rolled toward the slums of district twelve
they had won; the seventy-fourth hunger games had two victors. to think, it only took one contrived star crossed lovers romance, two handfuls of berries, and outright defiance of the capitol.
"what truth?" katniss asked innocently, brushing a lock of dark hair behind her ear to reinforce the image of innocence
"why the berries? why us both?" peeta raised an eyebrow, his blue eyes locked intently into her brown eyes.
"love," katniss replied softly, fidgeting with her manicured fingers.
he gave her a look, a look that needs to be seen to be described.
"love," katniss said again, as if the more it's said, the more believable it will be.
"love," the words slowly repeated by peeta, conforming to his tongue, making sense in his mind.
katniss gave a slow nod, her lips pressed into each other in a line.
"what else," he asked, voice cracked and hesitant, "because it's sure as hell not just that."
"tell the truth," Peeta added, plainly and simply, carefully studying the expression on her face.
lips still pressed together, "i wish it was," she replied .
stunned, if not in disbelief, peeta gave her one last look before admitting defeat and making way to his room.
one.
two.
three seconds.
"dandelions" katniss murmured to the departing figure, sure he would not hear her.
the only flower she ever needed was the one she had just stepped on.
(author's notes, because no one likes to read this in the beginning)
Not to worry, I am capable of capitalizing sentences, but I have these inclination towards using all lower-case letters. This is very short, very short, shorter than what was originally intended, but I just wanted to publish this before a certain hour. My tenses are all mixed up because I wrote this in late April and it was sitting somewhere in my documents, but I was just magically reinspired to resucitate this poor fic(let).
Remember, all reviews help me from further tainting this fandom with all of my terrible writing.
(+ a disclaimer)
I don't own The Hunger Games, and if I did, the difference in story would be astronomical (more on that later)
