Disclaimer: I don't own CSI. If I did, we would have gotten something like this on the show.

A/n: I know I said I wasn't going to write anything else until after Goodbye and Good Luck, but my irritation with this missing moment had me sitting down at the keyboard. It has been glaringly missing. And CSI writers? How hard would something like this have been?

Sara grabbed her kit and slammed the trunk, her mind on the scene she'd just left. Heading inside she could still see the face of the woman who'd been shot while picking up a supply of tampons at the grocery store. Such a mundane task, a task every woman in the civilized world performed. Some coked out kid, high and stupid had decided to rob the store and when the cashier hadn't moved fast enough he began shooting, finally ending by taking his own life. Walking down the hall she didn't look left or right. What was the point? Everyday she came in, donned her badge and gun, and went out to find another murder, another suicide. Going straight for the locker room, she sat her kit on the bench and sat down. She was still lost in thought when she felt, rather than heard, someone walk in. Looking up she was surprised to see Catherine.

She tried to summon a smile. "Hey Cat, haven't seen you in a while."

Catherine smiled and walked over, sitting down beside her. "Yeah, it's odd not being on the same shift." She looked around the room, seeming lost for words.

Sara nodded. "Yeah, it is. Odd. So why are you here now? Shouldn't you be getting some sleep?"

Catherine looked surprised. "No, it's uh; it's one in the morning. I was just about to head out to a scene."

Sara, taken aback, looked at her watch. "I didn't even notice the time. I guess it's me that should be at home in bed." She sighed and stood up, opening her locker.

Catherine watched her silently for a moment, and then got up also. "Well, I guess I'd better get to my scene." She turned to leave, but turned back. "Hey Sara, I… I just wanted to say that I'm happy for you and Grissom. I can't say how surprised I was, but I also can't believe how slow I was. I mean you'd think I would have seen something."

Sara's lips curved in a genuine smile. "That's okay Cath, no one knew. We're just that good."

That surprised a laugh out of Catherine. "Yeah, I guess you are." She hesitated and then said. "And about what I said about Grissom and Heather, well I'm really sorry. I know I didn't know you two were together then, but thinking back I can remember how many times you tried to change the subject and I just kept yammering on about it. I promise I'll try to be more observant in the future." She smiled and left the room.

Sara finished up, stacking her gun and badge in the locker, ready to go out again the next day. Picking up her phone she hit speed dial and waited. He picked up on the second ring. "Hey, whatcha doing?" His grumble about paperwork made her smile. "Well, I just wrapped a case and was wondering if you'd like to catch a little time together. Say a late dinner?" She laughed at his response. "Okay, I'm heading that way now." She closed the phone and headed for the door feeling a bit brighter. For now.

The end

A/n2: I may decide to extend this story to other moments I think are missing, but we'll see.
