They were walking through the palace gardens of Nihon, Fai giggling about a new furisode Tomoyo had promised to make him.

"-but we're still not sure what color to make it, either pink or blue. I like pink best, but Tomoyo-san says blue suits me better, what do you think, Kuro-myuu?"

Kurogane thought that the right shade of blue- an almost turquoise color- brought out the color of Fai's eye, making it even more startlingly beautiful. But he wasn't about to say that, so he shrugged instead. Fai pouted.

"You're no fun," Kuro-chu," he mumbled, stalking a little ways ahead, but less than a minute later he let the ninja catch up with him. The full moon shone brightly, illuminating them both and giving a halo effect around Fai's head. Kurogane tried not to stare, but it was stunning. Fai smiled at him, and for a moment, Kurogane could have sworn he was looking at an angel. Better yet, it was a real smile, not the fake one that normally seemed glued to his face, complete with bright, happy eyes. He didn't know what the mage was so happy about, but it didn't matter. He loved those smiles.

He bent down and broke off a small write rose from its vine, carefully scraping off all the thorns as they walked- or in Fai's case, skipped- in silence. Then he touched Fai on the arm to slow him down. When he turned to face Kurogane he quickly tucked it behind Fai's ear, planting a quick kiss on his soft cheek. Fai looked at him, confused.

"Because I love it when you smile like that," Kurogane explained with a shrug, then walked off like nothing had happened.
