Honeymoon Is Over

She was just waking up when the distinct sound of footsteps made her muscles jump.
And then, like every other day, the world decides to mess with Xena's morning.
And, on any other day, she'd make quick work with a fist or a kick to someone's head.
But on this day, all Xena can see is the frying pan.
Cast iron and deadly, no longer just used for cooking.

Oh yea, this'll be a fun fight today.

She was dreaming of something wonderful when the cold water hit her face.
And then, like every other day, the world decides to crash into Gabrielle's slumber.
And, on any other day, she'd keep one eye on her traveling companion as the staff makes contact with someone's chest.
But on this day, all Gabrielle can see is the frying pan.
Bent and warped, no longer useable for its purpose.

Oh yea, Warrior Princess, you are going to pay for this one.

And the honeymoon is over as they stand toe-to-toe, both of them not seeing the other one's point of view. That lovely sheen of friendship and caring slips right off, hitting the muddy ground beneath their feet.
A cool look and a heated glare set the tone for the rest of the hours to follow.
And, on any other day, Xena would apologize. And, on any other day, Gabrielle would acquiesce.
Just like every other day, though, they ride this wave. Up and down. Back and forth. Push. Pull.

The rose-colored world is a shade too dark now. There are no heroes here.
Yes, the honeymoon is over.
But the marriage has just begun.
