A/n: just a random drabble concerning the apparent need for Ran to spaz when learning about the whole Conan is Shinichi situation. Not saying she wouldn't, I mean, I would. I don't own anything but the vague idea behind this all.

.-.-.-.-.-.

Shinichi took a deep breath. Ran, who sat across from him, spun her spoon in the coffee idly. They had been sitting in their little booth on the far wall of this café for a long time, yet her eyes had yet to leave his.

She was waiting.

And he was running out of air here.

Looks like it was time to spill.

"Ran," he began, fingers working restlessly at the edge of the table. She didn't nod or reply, seeing as he already knew he had her full attention. The rest of the air filling his lungs escaped in a long, heaving sigh. "I'm…I'm Conan." Just as he thought, his love's eyes grew wide at his confession, but he put a hand up to stop her before she could say anything in response. "Please, let me explain first." She nodded and sat back in her seat, however now a great deal more tense.

For the next…well, very long time, Shinichi told her everything. He explained every detail, gave every possibly justification for what had happened and why he did what he'd done. It seemed so stupid now that he said it aloud, all the lies and tricks. He had told himself when he did them it was for the best; he did this to protect her. Now…well now it just made him sound like a complete imbecile. And he admitted he was to her out loud throughout his declaration. A lot.

Finally, the traitorous mouth of his ran dry and, slumping slightly onto his elbows, he waited for his fate to be dealt to him.

He was going to die.

It was going to be a painful, horrible death and he deserved it, especially by her hand.

Oh, man was he screwed.

…any minute now…

Finally, after what seemed a century longer than it had taken him to tell his tale, Ran opened her mouth.

"That sucks," came her strangely sympathetic reply. Shinichi did a double-take.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" the teen detective exclaimed, waving his hands around, trying to stop everything around him. "That's it? No fire and brimstone? No 'Shinichi, you asshole'?"

Ran looked at him with evident confusion. "What? No!" she cried. Slowly, the woman on the other side of the booth searched out his hand and held it gently inside both of her own. "It's obvious you've been through hell. Yeah, you've lied to me, and I don't like it at all, but you did it out of love of me and my family."

Shinichi blinked once, then twice. "That was extremely…not what I thought you'd say," he admitted before placing his free hand atop hers. A smile slowly began to grow across his face as she squeezed the hand within her grip in response.

"What," Ran said as she rolled her bright blue eyes, "did you think I would disown you?"

"And or kill me," he replied as smile finished forming into his usual grin. Despite the awkwardness of the situation, he couldn't help but lean a little closer to the young woman as he spoke. "I'm glad you didn't, though."

Ran let out a soft chuckle before inching forward as well. "Me too."

And then they kissed.

And everything was right in the world.

…well, it was until the temp antidote wore off and…well, you can fill in the blanks from there.
