Hi everyone! So I started writing another Attack on Titan story but I didn't really like the way I was writing it and I had a few more different ideas so I thought I'd start over. I'll probably go back after writing a few chapters and edit it a little but I'm hoping it's okay how it is. Thank you for taking the time to read it and please review and let me know what you think :)
The wind blew harshly around me, making me shiver from the bitter coldness. I clutched the oversized jacket tightly to keep myself warm, but I still found myself shaking, whether it was from the cold or from this unknown scenery. I had no memory of this place and the more I tried to think, my mind was hazy as if all memories had been stolen from me. The thumping pain from my head made me stumble every few steps and the feeling of the sticky substance slowly drying on the side of my head made me question so many things. I stared out at the vast green fields and collapsed onto my knees, not knowing what to do or how to bring myself to carry on.
"How did I get here?" I asked myself, even my voice sounded alien. I dug my hands into the pockets of my jacket and felt something, I seized it from my pocket to see if it held any clues. It was a small, folded piece of paper which I unfolded with great care so as not to rip it and my heart began to beat faster as I noticed there was something written on it, I stared at each letter over and over.
Freya, be safe. I will find you again one day. This was it, my only clue to my life, if it really was meant for me. "Freya… Is this my name?" I wondered as I continued to gaze at the note with confusion, if this note was for me then who wrote it?
I was so absorbed in trying to make sense of the words that I barely noticed the sound that began to fill my ears, I looked up to see a small army of horses galloping my way. I scrunched up the note and placed it back into my pocket before standing up, ignoring the pain within my head trying to force me back to the ground. As the horses became clearer I noticed there were people mounting them, life some kind of army, and I felt my instincts kick in and I stared to run. I had no idea who these people were, whether they were friend or foe, but I couldn't stay around to find out. There was only one problem, there was nowhere but clear fields and no where to hide.
Walking was a difficult task on its own with this head injury, running was almost impossible with my balance being severely affected. I forced myself to carry on, but it was all for nothing, these strangers were gaining on me. I stumbled over my feet accidentally and fell to the ground, all I heard were the sound of hooves surrounding me and the sound of questioning voices.
"Who are you?" A loud, demanding voice asked. I raised my voice to see a blonde man a top a large horse, his eyes fixed on mine. "How did you get out here?"
I opened my mouth to answer but nothing came out, the confusion and fear almost suffocating me. I couldn't think of anything to say, without knowing anything I had no sufficient answer to give him.
"I don't think she's going to be up for answering any questions. Look at her, she's completely disorientated." My eyes turned to where the other voice came from, a dark-haired man with a cold expression on his face.
I controlled my breathing and finally attempted to speak again, "m-my name is Freya. I don't know how I got here." My voice broke a little at the end, as much as I wanted to appear strong, having no memories of myself or how I got here terrified me.
"Well you're definitely an interesting one," a brown-haired woman jumped from her horse and walked over to me with a smile. "Commander, we should really take her back, she doesn't look well at all."
"Yes, we can't leave her out here." The blonde man agreed, "but she'll need to be under guard."
"Who are you people?" I asked, my voice barely coming out as a whisper. A lot of them raised their eyebrows at the question as if I should already know.
"You really don't know?" the woman next to me asked and I shook my head. "You must have a concussion, you should take it easy."
"And why should I trust you?" I raised myself up from the ground but found I couldn't stand straight without the pain coming back.
"I understand your worries, but no harm will come to you as long as you don't attack any of us." The blonde man attempted to reassure me, however, I still was still unconvinced. My eyes dropped to the blades sheathed by the woman's side for a miniscule moment, maybe she was so interested in me she let her guard drop.
"Don't even think about it," A deep voice from behind me said, almost making me jump. I turned around to see the dark-haired man that spoke before staring at me intently. I hadn't even realised he'd dismounted his horse, I knew at that moment that I had no chance of fighting back in this condition. I frowned at the man who only stood an inch or two taller than me, there was something about him that seemed almost familiar. I felt my sense of balance slipping again as a tried to stand up straight and my vision started to blur, panic set in and I couldn't stop myself from lashing out. I could barely think or see, all I could feel were my fists hitting something and the next moment I felt my face hitting the ground as someone pinned me to the ground. Tears threatened to fall as I forced myself to stay conscious, my body ached for me to rest and after a few more moments of struggling I finally gave in to the darkness.
I opened my eyes slowly to a dimly lit room, I found myself on an uncomfortable bed and for a second, I thought it was all a dream. My heart dropped when I realised there was nothing before what I thought was a dream, no memories I could think of, nothing at all. I sat up slowly and raised my hand to my aching head and found there were bandages wrapped around it.
"Finally, you're awake," a chirpy female voice echoed. I started up and realised the woman from before was looking at me through metal bars.
"Where am I?" I asked with a shaky voice.
"We had to keep you here, you went a little crazy out there," she seemed to find the situation quite amusing.
"What is this place though…?" I stared around, thinking I was in a dungeon.
"The cells beneath the courthouse, you're being kept here until we can figure out what to do with you. My name is Hange Zoe by the way, your name is Freya, right?"
I nodded uncertainly and dropped my gaze, deciding to fidget with my hands instead. This whole situation was worse, and I had no idea how to get out of it, I couldn't give them anything.
"Freya, huh? Did you remember that was your name or did you just choose it from the note you had in your pocket?"
I looked back up at her with tearful eyes, "I don't even know if it's my name… I don't know who I am, who you are or what the hell this place is. I don't know if I'm a good person or if I've done something horrible to deserve this hell." She continued to look at me with a sympathetic expression while I let it all out, I was afraid, and I finally let my emotions take hold. I was tired of trying to be strong, I just wanted it all to end.
"We'll figure it out, don't you worry," Hange told me, her positivity seemed to pick me up a little.
I wiped the tears away and smiled weakly at my hands. "I hope so, I'm sorry for whatever I did when you found me, I can't really remember much."
"Well for such a small person with a concussion, you sure pack a punch," she laughed. Our conversation was cut short by the sound of a door opening, I watched as two men joined our company. One tall and blonde, the 'Commander', and the shorter man who I'm pretty sure was the one I tried to attack.
"I see you're looking much better," the Commander said with a small smile. "I apologise for the precaution of keeping you here but I'm sure you understand. I am Erwin Smith, commander of the survey corps and this here is Captain Levi."
I nodded and cleared my throat, "I should be the one to apologise, I panicked and… I was out of line." I had so many questions, just who were the survey corps?
"I appreciate your compliance, but we still can't allow you to leave this cell just yet. We have no record of anyone by your name and description, it also appears you have trained to fight from your technique, if a little hindered by your injuries." The commander explained my situation, but the more he spoke the more confused I became.
"Not knowing who I am terrifies me," I confessed, "but at the same time, I have a chance to start a new life. It doesn't matter who I used to be now, only what I do now and the choices I make from here on."
As I spoke, I felt all their observant eyes on me but my own found those belonging to Levi. This man seemed different from the others, I frowned and lowered my gaze back to my hands. I hated this feeling of being observed like this, in a cage with nowhere to hide.
It all came back to one question though, what really happened to me?
