Don't own National Treasure. I wish I owned Riley…

I do own Alexis.

A/N: This is just a one-shot I thought I'd do. The events in this story do not indicate the outcome of National Treasure II : Riley's Declaration of Independence.

Catch Me if You Can!

"Where are they?" Riley Poole thought. He was playing a friendly game of "Tag" with Alexis, Abigail, Ben, and their son, Sam. "Hey, this isn't hide-and-go-seek!" He heard a giggle from behind a bush. Riley stealthily crept around the bush and found Sam and Alexis.

"Got ya!" Riley yelled triumphantly as he tagged Sam. "Sam's it!" He yelled. Alexis zoomed away while Sam tried to catch her.

Abigail poked her head around a tree and watched her son lope along in that five-year-old fashion. As Alexis passed, she saw that Sam had seen her. She pretended to run as fast as she could, but let Sam catch her. "Okay, I'm it now!" She called. Alexis seemed like an easy target for her and she took off.

Alexis proved to be very difficult to catch, but finally, Abigail reached out and tagged the 28-year-old on the shoulder. "Alexis is it!" Riley yelled, seeing Abigail's victory.

"Riley, over here!" Ben called. Riley joined Ben under a willow tree.

"How come no one's found you?" Riley asked through labored breaths.

"No one's looked here yet." Ben said calmly.

"Yet." Riley said warningly, seeing Alexis approaching them through the long branches. He got up and took of the other direction, luckily avoiding Alexis's eye. Ben on the other hand, wasn't so lucky.

"Ha!" Alexis said.

Ben jumped up and began running. "Catch me if you can!" he yelled challengingly.

Alexis ran after him, accepting his challenge. But neither of them saw the root sticking up out of the ground until it was too late. First Ben tripped then Alexis! They both ended up sprawled out on the lawn, with Sam laughing uncontrollably.

"Look at daddy!" he laughed. Abigail and Riley couldn't help but laugh when Alexis reached over and laid her hand on Ben's shoulder. "You're it." She puffed.

"I'm afraid I may be too old for this." Ben said jokingly. They both stood, and tried to catch their breath, having just had the wind knocked out of them.

Ben looked up suddenly. "You better run, because I'm it!"

Abigail caught the glint in Ben's eyes and ran as fast as she could in the opposite direction.

But Ben wasn't after Abigail. Hey turned toward his Riley and tagged him.

Riley looked at Ben in surprise. He too had thought Ben would chase Abigail. "Fine." He sighed. "I'm it again!" he yelled and took off chasing Alexis.

Alexis laughed as she easily outran her husband.

"Why can't you all stand still?" Riley asked exasperatedly.

Sam jumped out in front of Riley. "Tag me! I'll get 'er!"

Riley high-fived Sam. Sam ran out around Alexis and ran out in her path. Alexis couldn't avoid him, and he tagged her.

The game continued on for another thirty minutes. By the end of that time, everyone was tired.

Ben let Sam run to him and tag him a final round of the game. "Okay, Sam. I'm done."

"Me too." Riley said.

"How can you be tired?" Ben asked. "You're 29! You're not supposed to get tired that easily!"

"Hey, who's been out here the longest?" Riley asked defensively.

Abigail laughed. "Riley, you're a lifesaver when he needs entertainment." She said, motioning to Sam.

Alexis held up her keys. "Does dinner sound good to you guys?"

Riley jumped up. "I'm in!"

"What happened to being tired?" Ben asked.

"Food before rest." Riley said in a professor like manner.

"Sounds great to me." Abigail said.

"Alright. Let's go." Ben agreed.

Sam was happy, too. "Yay! Food."

Riley smiled at Ben. "He may be your kid, but he's taking after me!"
