Three days.

Three days since they had stopped the Wraith. Three days in which they had had room to breathe.

Three days that Carson Beckett had been run off his feet, dealing with all the wounded.

Elizabeth smiled slightly, gazing at his stretched-out body. The poor man had been awake all those days – as well as many previous, keeping a close eye on McKay and Zelenka – and now… Now he was sleeping on his office floor, snoring softly. No mattress, no pillow, just a cold hard floor.

It spoke for how hard he'd been working that he didn't seem to notice it at all. It was a place to lie, a place to sleep – a place close to his patients.

She knelt beside him and folded his jacket up, sliding it under his head. She laid a light blanket over him and smiled again as he shifted.

"You should sleep too, 'lizabeth," he murmured.

"I'm sure you'll make me soon."

He nodded. "Aye." He rolled over, and settled back into sleep.

She patted his shoulder, stood up and turned to leave. Glancing back over her shoulder, she sighed softly. He had done so much for their people these last couple of days. For some, there wasn't much he could do, but he had tried his hardest.

She hoped he knew how much they appreciated him for it.

"Thank you," she whispered and left.

Carson rolled over again and smiled into his jacket. "Thank you too. And it's your turn next," he promised as sleep embraced him.
