Life
A reflective poem in Soda's point of view. /Life is just a game/
A/N- Another Outsiders work hmm? I can't help it, they're fun to write xD. For a project on the Outsiders, I had to write a poem on one of the characters. For a while I was torn between Darry and Soda, until my friend decided to do Soda and I decided I'd have more fun with Darry. Then later on she asked me for some tips in poetry to improve her poem and I ended up writing this. I notice how characters like Sodapop are taken two ways: secretly depressed, or happy all the time with no sense of sadness. I'd like to reach a middle ground, by using a common theme to link happiness and sadness together. It's hard to catch a character's essence in a simple poem, but I gave it my best shot. Tell me what you think! – Marie
Dropping out of school gave me no shame
Because life, you see, is just like a game
You're one of the pieces
You win and you lose
You don't always get what you deserve
I have two brothers
And I love them so,
But it seems sometimes
That they just don't know
They yell in the night
They scream in the day
They tear me apart
Until I have nothing to say
If life's just a game
Why are some hit so hard?
Like Johnny and Stevie
Who are so unloved?
I smile and laugh
I whistle and grin
I cry to show the pain that I'm in.
Sometimes I wish
The world was fair
That Darry could stop working and just breath the air
That Dally would grin without mischief in mind
That Ponyboy and I could spend some time
But in this game you either lose or win
Based heavily on the state you are in
Guessing on my luck, I guess I've lost
My life holds no future
It's still hard to trust
But if Darry and Ponyboy
Can stand and be strong
I don't want to be the one
Left all alone
So I'll smile, I'll laugh
I'll try to understand
Because the one way to be strong
Is to be who I am.
