I swooped into the Great Hall, my feathers rustling slightly. I landed on the Gryffindor table with a clatter of claws, puffing out my chest proudly, expecting a reward for delivering this letter like a chunk of toast or a piece of sausage. I shot a disgruntled hoot at Harry when he ignored me but he didn't notice. What did I have to do to get a nice juicy piece of bacon around here?

I watched that Neville child run out of the hall with a red envelope like the one Ronald had last year. I found his facial expression amusing, and I would have laughed at his absolute terror, had I been human.

A massive explosion of noise erupted from the Entrance Hall and I shook my feathers indignantly. It was too early in the morning for that, thank you very much. Not that I hadn't been awake for hours or anything. I took my irritation out on Harry, nipping at him until he realised I was there with his letter shackled to my ankles.

"Ouch! Oh- thanks, Hedwig."

Finally, some appreciation.

Harry took the letter from me and tore it open as I looked across the table for any scraps of food I could steal surreptitiously. Seeing as the Neville child was still off dealing with his grandmother, I hopped over and started nibbling on his cornflakes. No-one was going to deny me food after all my hard work. It was the least I deserved, an even if they did, I had a fully functioning beak that I wasn't against using.
