It was 18 days until. Ann pressed her face on the window, staring out into the rain. She wondered how long she'd be here. Her mother had left her on the stairs of this place when she was now. People sometimes asked her if she missed her mother, but in reality, how can you miss someone you never knew? They abandoned you, so why should you give them your love? Marie walked up behind Ann.

"You okay? You seem to do this whenever it rains." Marie said in her gentle, adolescent voice. Her voice always calmed Ann. She had been growing up here, with Marie and her family. Marie was like her sister, except they looked nothing alike. Marie, with her tan skin and beautiful long brown hair, and Ann with her pale, freckly patchy skin and an ugly color of blonde hair. She tanned amazingly, but hated outdoors. Outdoors is where her mother is, and she didn't want to be near her.

Surprised, but acting calm, Ann mutters a grunt. Marie got the message and left. Seeing this, Ann stood up from her window seat, and went into her closet to put on pajamas. Pajamas during the day made Ann feel better about herself. Her typical nine year old pajamas consisted of black pants with white spots and a tank top with a puppy on it.
Ann looked at her faded yellow door with a smile. It was thin, but Marie's parents were unaware. She could hear them well just sitting on her bed. They never went in her room. They would always send Marie. Which was kind of nice, she guessed.

Ann sat down at her desk. She pulled out her favorite and most prized possession. An old, blue, faded Gameboy. She popped in Pokémon Yellow. Most would find this confusing, as how does a nine year old get a Gameboy? Marie's parents bought it for her off e-Bay, which was the only present they ever bought her. Marie slipped her half of her allowance a week, and Ann bought Pokémon Yellow with it. She ran around her very small room many times in joy. Now, 4 years later, she had beaten it, and could one-shot anything. She was a master at it.

She decided enough is enough and laid in bed. She relaxed. She tossed and turned, but eventually fell under sleep's taunting spell. She awoke to Marie yelling through the door, knowing it's thin, "Wake up, little sleepy-poo!" Ann hated this, but continued to lay there since Marie was only allowed in past 10. She giggled to herself at this.

"Mom says we're going shopping. Get up. "Ann heard through the what-needs-to-be-thicker-door.
"Fine," Ann grumbled in her high pitched child voice. She heard her laughing and walking away. Ann tossed on her blue shirt and too-small of jeans that she couldn't dare to part with.

She headed downstairs, her hair a giant frizz mess, and had the pop tart laying on her plate. "Ann! Come here. I wish to do your hair." Marie's mother, Samantha, said from the living room. "Coming!" Ann replied, hopped off her stool, placed the plate in the sink, and ran over to Sam. This was the one reason she gets up in the morning, to get her hair done all fancy like.

"Thanks!" Ann said, astonished at the amazing Dutch Braid. "Anytime, meet you in the car in 10 minutes. "Ann grabbed her Gameboy, sprayed her hair with water, and rushed to the car, She loved car trips. They relaxed her, gave her time to sit and think about things.

That day, Ann thought about how her life would be different if her mother had kept her. She twisted a strand of shorter hair that had fallen out of the magical braid. Ann was homeschooled by Sam. Sam was a retired teacher, well, she never was one, actually. She has a teaching degree, but never used it, actually. Ann tried public schools, private
schools, and...those didn't work. Not at all.

Ann shook herself to reality as Samantha pulled in to the store.

End of the chapter one, I guess. Tell me what you think for me to continue!
