Home is a place where you should be able,

To be whoever you are.

But, for him, home is too unstable,

The fighting has gone too far.

So Papa leaves, and Mama stays,

But she's angry and bitter and cold.

And when his parents go their separate ways,

He loses his home, at not even 10 years old.

Mama calls him such terrible words,

He's neglected, abandoned, shoved.

Insults are all he hears, and ever heard,

And he realizes he'll never be loved.

Maybe that's why she catches his eye,

And strikes his love-starved soul.

She's bubbly, and fun, always eager to try,

She's radiant and happy and whole.

She has everything he's ever needed,

If he is ice, then she is the flame.

Only she can break his wall, and she succeeded,

Without ever seeing him or knowing his name.

And so, he falls into a young, impressionable love,

As he watches her day after day.

Hiding behind a bush or shrub,

Deciding what he should say.

At the first encounter, she's furious.

He'd called her a witch, after all.

But she knows she's different, and she's curious,

And decides his tales may not be so tall...

And so she gains knowledge (the truth), and a friend,

But then Tunie calls her a freak,

It hurts, and that's how their friendship ends,

But she still has almost everything she seeks.

They're together in the train, together in the Hall,

They marvel at the enchanted ceiling.

He secretly wishes they'll be together through it all,

And smiles, wondering what she is feeling.

But when the Hat comes out, and her head goes in,

The result makes his heart feel sore.

For, like expected, he's a Slytherin,

And she joins mighty Gryffindor.

In spite of their rivalling Houses,

They stay the best of mates.

But with the Dark Arts, his interest arouses,

And they soon start to separate.

And then Potter is asking her out,

And bullying him, just to look cool.

And while she hates Potter, no doubt,

He's the one who becomes a fool.

In fifth year, when he's bullied, and she comes to his defence,

The worst possible thing that could've occured:

He's humiliated, and he loses his sense,

And calls her 'Mudblood', that terrible word.

He says sorry again, and again,

Time after time, he apologizes.

She tells him to save his breath and then,

It's futile, he realizes.

There's a crushing pain in his heart,

It's hard to sleep, walk, or think.

His one soul, now a thousand parts,

Yet, in his sorrow, he refuses to sink.

He watches her fall in love with another,

(why Potter?)

And he's hit hard with the truth he has always known.

For once and for all, he has no other,

Severus Snape was, is, and will be alone.
