Loving your best friend is challenging, but loving the best friend that doesn't feel like she'll ever be enough, is the hardest thing in the world. Connor Temple figured that out quickly when it came to Abby…and when he had finally gained enough courage to ask her out, the fighting began.

"Abby, why can't we just try?" Connor shouted, feeling rather confused and annoyed.
"Because, Connor!" She screamed, whipping around to stare him in the face, her chest heaving, her fists clenching and her eyes watering. "No one could ever love me, no one will ever love me! I'm just—-I'm someone to use for pleasure, for when you feel desperate! No one could actually hold me tight and whisper that they'll love me forever without ripping off my clothes!"
"Abs, no—no…" He shook his head, trying to look in her eyes though she was trying to avoid it. "Why wouldn't anybody be able to love you?"
"Because—-I'm broken…I'm clingy and annoying and terribly jealous." Abby admitted, running her tongue over her dry lips. "I'm ugly and scary, too…"

Connor stood shocked at her thoughts. He hadn't heard anything more wrong in his lifetime and that was saying a lot.

"You're not ugly and you're not scary, Abby. You're perfect just the way you are…"
She furrowed her eyebrows, she had heard compliments before, but never one so genuine, never one that sounded so true. "But…I can't—-Connor. I've never been—-good in relationships. I'm…stupid."
"We can learn together, Abs." Connor smiled lightly. "You're not stupid, you're brilliant. Sometimes it's hard, I understand, but that's no reason not to try."
"Connor—-"
"Shhh," He placed his fingers on her lips gently, leaning down to kiss her head, wanting to take it slow for her sake. He could tell that she wasn't ready to rush anything.

"It'll be okay," He whispered in her ear. "when it comes to fixing broken things…I'm a genius, promise."
