A tear escaped from Cassie's eye. She looked down at Jake. His eyes were closed and his hair was draped over his forehead. A sudden, violent jerk went through his body. Casse looked down at his side. A giant burn went through his left side.
Cassie had his head in her arms. She began to cry silently. Slowly at first, but then she began to convulse in sobs. Tears ran in torrents down her cheeks. Her dark skin was wet from the continual flow of tears. She felt loss so deep inside her that she began to feel sick. Jake was dying.
Rachel stood to the side, not wanting to interfere. Her face was damp from tears also. Tobias came up next to her in his human morph and put his arm over her shoulder. She looked him in the eyes, then laid her head on his shoulder. A tear glistened in his eyes.
Marco stood alone. He fought the urge to just run away. His best friend was dying right in front of him, and there was nothing he could do. Suddenly tears started flowing down his face. He tried to wipe them away, but they wouldn't stop. He fell to his knees and crumpled over. His friend, the one who had argued with him his whole life was dying. His buddy. Marco brought his hand up to his face and covered his mouth. He took a shaky breath. This couldn't be happening.
Rachel saw Marco fall to his knees. She quickly looked at Tobias, and he nodded. Rachel walked over to him. She kneeled down by him. Marco's eyes were wet with tears. He looked at her. She put her arm around Marco and helped him up. Without warning, he hugged her. Surprised at first, she didn't react. Then she hugged back, trying to comfort him in the best way she could. Marco's brown eyes met her's again. They showed sincere thanks in them. She gave a sad smile. She felt sorrow for Marco. This was his best friend. They walked back over to Tobias.
Cassie sobbed for what seemed forever. She couldn't stop. Slowly though, she began to quiet. She looked back down at Jake's face. He seemed to be so peaceful. She stroked his hair slowly, not wanting to ever let go of him. She bent down and softly kissed him. Don't leave me, Jake. Please... She pleaded silently. She closed her eyes again. She held him while slowly rocking back and forth. She began to hum a tune her mother had used to try and get Cassie to fall asleep when she was little. Quietly at first she hummed. Then she stopped. Her eyes opened. She watched as Jake's breathing slowed. She continued to stroke his head. Jake suddenly took a large breath. Cassie's eyes widened. Jake stopped breathing. She held him tighter and gently kissed him one last time. She felt her heart break. Jake was gone.
A/N:I know I threw you into the middle of this with no background information, and I know this is probably a little over-used, but I like writing these pieces where I can really let myself go and get emotional while writing it. And I know it's a little sappy. What can I say? So don't flame me and say, this plot is over-used, because I know it is. But I tried to do it a little differently......
