There was some truth to that little red book with golden lettering. The King of the Goblins had fallen in love with the girl; but at the fatal moment of accepting and sharing his affections, she spurned him. He had begged, implored, offered her everything and anything; and watched with undisguised anguish as she tossed his feelings back in his face with six horrible words.
He had begged.
He had lowered himself to plead with a mortal.
He had offered her the world, her dreams, and himself; and she wanted none of it.
So, now weakened and alone, Jareth cries.
