"Awakening; An interlude"

Breathe, try to breathe. He clutched his chest and opened the car door, escaping the cramped cabin with the cold wet street.

In. Out. In. Out. He stood up and rubbed his temple. His finger felt wet; blood. He got back into his car and looked at the dash mirror. The man had a gash in his forehead and blood covered half of his face.

He opened the dash and found some napkins and wiped the blood away. The man stopped. Who am I?

It had hit him hard and fast, bringing a noisy crowd of confused thoughts to his mind; he wasn't able to distinguish one from the other .

He felt around inside his coat's pocket, finding a wallet. He found the ID inside. The ID told him his name was Steve Roberts. Steve looked through the wallet for money and found forty bucks.

He put the wallet back into his coat and got out of the car. He looked around at the strange snowy town that surrounded him. The dreamlike and lonely world seemed to engulf him, he was the only man alive in the world, and he was almost sure of it.

He got back into the car and tried to start it. It wouldn't start, it obviously got wrecked in the crash; the engine wiped away like his own memories.

He got out of the car, shutting the door behind him and walked to the nearest sidewalk. The store in front of him said Paul's Diner.

Steve Roberts opened the door.
