The Ballad of Sirius Black
Growing up in our household
Was a dark affair
My cruel mother favored Regulus
For me she did not care
Still they wanted me to keep
The family tradition
And end up in evil
Conniving Slytherin
But I was sorted to Gryffindor
Where dwell the brave at heart
I was a rebel, along with my new friends
And from my family I was set apart
James was by far
My best mate
We seemed to have met that day on the train
By happy divine fate
It was he who took me in
When I escaped my house to roam
James's parents were good to me
His house became my home
Remus was a good friend as well
But he was a werewolf just the same
That didn't stop us, we wanted to help,
So we became animagi, he was tame
We ventured the grounds
And got to know them well
So we made the marauders map
With James' creative spell.
Peter was a little odd
But a good tag-along I guess
He was always good for a laugh
He took away our stress
And so we formed the marauderers
A chain that could not be severed
As James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter,
We were best friends forever.
We came up with codenames:
Moony, Padfoot, Wormy, and Prongs,
These silly little nicknames
Made our bond even more strong
We thought nothing would tear us apart,
But then Voldemort came
We joined the order, tried to stay strong
But it was all in vain.
James and Lilly had a son,
Who they named Harry
They knew someone had betrayed them to Voldemort,
They went into hiding, it was scary.
Voldemort showed up on their doorstep
On October 31st
He killed James and Lily
Then disappeared with a burst
The little vermin, Peter,
Blamed it all on me
When I was caught attempting vengeance,
They locked me up in Azkaban, cell three.
I knew I was innocent,
That kept me sane,
But I knew wormy was seeking Harry,
So I escaped, but not for personal gain.
I ended up saving Harry,
But wormy got away.
Still it wasn't a waste,
I was united with new and old friends that day.
But I couldn't stay
Harry and his friends helped me run
On the back of a stolen hippogriff
I went into hiding and missed all the fun.
I watched as Harry battled his way
Through the Triwizard competition
Whenever he had problems
I gave him propositions.
The next year was his hardest yet
It seemed everyone was against him
The Ministry, his peers, the whole wizard world,
I was the only one who truly understood him.
He and his friends got into some trouble
I went to help them stay alive;
Although I accomplished my goal,
I did not survive.
Although he grieved and mourned for me
I wasn't at all in pain,
I was very happy, behind the veil,
Re-united with my friends again.
