We were reunited
Under a willow tree.
It was the meeting place,
As far as we could see.
We waited and we bantered
Till Gogo fell asleep.
Soon after I awoke him,
My escape from being lonely.
I could not bear to hear his dreams,
More than enough is this reality
To which we are condemned;
This never-ending monotony.
And so we waited for Godot
With blind uncertainty
That He would come and save us
From our life in purgatory.
Around the twilight hour
A crazed duo came.
One pompous and one loyal,
Pozzo and Lucky were their names.
One talked, the other danced and thought,
Keeping us thoroughly entertained
But soon enough they had to leave,
So waiting we remained.
We then met a Boy
With long fair hair,
Who gazed upon us
With a frightened stare.
Said he waited till
The scary men weren't there
To crush our hopes
In a moment of despair.
Not today, but tomorrow
Was the message he shared,
And so we will remain.
The very next day
Was exactly the same:
Gogo slept in a ditch,
Came back beaten and in pain.
We examined the landscape,
But didn't recognize the place;
Our memories from yesterday
Had quickly begun to fade.
Though poor Gogo remembered nothing
Of the previous day,
The newly-grown leaves on the tree
To us seemed out of place.
And while we both considered
Going our separate ways,
To hear about our future,
Waiting for Godot we must remain.
