The Wizard—Oscar Zoraster Diggs—smiled at his new wife, Melena Thropp Diggs. He had loved her right from the moment they'd met and when he'd found out she was pregnant, he hoped for a son, imagining the little boy leading his school sports team to victory.
Since the day they got married, he'd been praying for a baby boy. Someone he could take fishing, throw the football, be his pride and joy. He could already see him holding that trophy, taking his team to states.
The nurse entered the room, carrying a little pink blanket and everything changed. Now, he couldn't bear to put his new daughter—Elphaba Diggs—down.
