Anya rested her head on Adam's shoulder and shut her eyes.
"Hey, umm, Anya?"
"Yeah?"
"I've got something I want to give you."
She opened her gray eyes which met his light blue. Adam took out a black box from his backpack and handed it to Anya.
"Open it," he encouraged.
Anya flipped open the box and saw a diamond-encrusted heart pendant attached to a glazing silver chain. She looked at Adam with her jaw dropped. Adam took this gesture as an insult.
"Do you not like it?" He asked.
"No, it's beautiful. It's just, I don't want you, or anybody for that matter, to be wasting their money on me. I'm not worth it," she shut the box closed.
Adam held Anya's hand, "Anya, you're the most genuine, beautiful, understanding, kind-hearted girl I know. You deserve the world."
Tears began to stream down Anya's cheeks, "Thanks, Adam."
Adam wiped her tears away and tucked the strands of hair in her eyes behind her ear. Abruptly, Anya planted her lips on Adam's. After the kiss, they smiled at one another for a while. Then, Adam took out the necklace from the box and used it to adorn Anya's bare neck.
"Thanks, again, Adam."
"No problem," he smiled.
They leaned in for another kiss but were interrupted by Mrs. Torres' annoying voice.
"Don't you think it's about time you go home, Anya?" said the old lady.
"Yes, Mam," said Anya sheepishly.
"I'll walk you home," said Adam and Anya gave him a smile.
"No you won't," said , "go to your room. Anya can handle herself. After all, she's two years older than you, right Anya?"
"Yes, Mam," said Anya, once again.
Before Anya walked out the door, Adam said goodbye and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
As Anya walked in the dark, foggy streets. She began to become fearful. She really wished Adam had walked her home. Anya held the heart pendant attached to the necklace Adam gave her and instantaneously felt secure. Anya kept on walking and stopped when she realized there was a puddle in her way. She looked down expecting a disgusting mess. Instead, she saw her reflection. She was smiling, still holding the pendant in her fingertips. Adam Torres put that smile on her face. In about a month, she graduates, leaving Adam behind. Anya couldn't believe it took her this long to realize that Adam was the one for her.
